FTAC Academy LLC, Firearms Training and Certification

What to Expect (Concealed Carry):

Class time is approximately 8 hours. Shooting range time varies with experience.

Class starts at 8:00 AM and can last until 6:00 PM.

Classroom curriculum is dictated by the State Attorney General’s office.

  • Legal issues and deadly force issues require at least 4 hours of classroom.
  • Gun safety, operation, and maintenance requires approximately 2 to 3 hours.
  • Written test:  25 questions. All questions missed will be discussed in the classroom and reviewed.

Range qualification requires 5 shots, on target, one handed at 3 yard. 10 shots two handed at 7 yards. 10 shots two handed at 10 yards. If student fails the range qualification they can re-qualify. If additional gun training is required we will provide additional time and training as time permits. We understand some students have little or no experience with handguns.

A 22 cal pistol will be available for students who don’t have their own gun. A 380 and a 9mm are also available at a cost of $20.00 due the high cost and shortage of ammunition.

If student has their own gun and ammunition they should bring it. We will help you learn to shoot it if necessary. Some small concealable handguns are difficult to shoot but far better to carry. If you have one bring it and try it. You can always qualify with one of our guns if necessary. We highly recommend you get acquainted with your own gun if you have one or try one of ours before you purchase one.

No children, guests, or family members, are allowed during the class. Students only.

Basic pistol book from the NRA will be supplied for classroom use. These books can be purchased for $15.00 if you wish to keep it.

The rules are very strict and very complicated as to who can legally handle a firearm. If there is a felony of any kind or any domestic misdemeanors in your past please contact me ahead of time to discuss. There is also information available at the State Attorney General’s website: ag.ks.gov

  • Hearing protection if available
